ECHOCARDIOGRAM (ECHO)
Echocardiogram ultrasound is used to examine the heart’s muscle, valves, blood flow, pumping, and beating. Doppler ultrasound and color Doppler are often combined with this ultrasound. This ultrasound can prevent heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. There are several types of echocardiogram ultrasounds (transthoracic, transesophageal, Doppler, and Stress echocardiogram). Your doctor will determine which type you may need depending on your circumstances. This ultrasound takes about 40 minutes.
This ultrasound can determine:
- heart valve abnormalities
- wall motion abnormalities
